Where to Dine

Patio season is short. Bring the dog.

Coffee, lunch, a cold drink or an ice cream can be a dog outing too — when the patio welcomes four-legged company.

Patio access is especially changeable. Seasons, staffing, special events, health requirements and business policy can all affect whether dogs are welcome on a particular day.

Before You Sit Down

Ask first. Then choose the table with the dog in mind.

Shade, space, heat, noise and foot traffic matter. A patio may technically allow dogs while still being a poor choice for a particular dog on a particular day.

Bring water unless you know it is provided. Keep food away from dogs you do not know, and remember that a busy patio is not the place to test whether your dog has suddenly become comfortable with crowds.
